To the Falkland Islands: albatross, petrels & dolphins

We could see the Ocean Diamond tied up at the dock early this morning.  Final packing was completed & bags have been taken away to next be seen in our cabin.  It's a gorgeous day here - unseasonably warm with little wind. It will be nice if this continues for the next few days while we make our way to the Falkland Islands.

Ah, now in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego

We landed at 6:30am today following a gentle flight south, lots of napping as well as keeping an eye on sunrise. And it was spectacular! The sun was rising above a large bank of clouds, and the Beagle Channel was glorious to see as we descended towards Ushuaia - soft early morning light and beautiful cloud formations.

But we should be in Ushuaia

I'm writing this post from a 3rd rate hotel in Buenos Aires - I know this is not my usual style and that staying in Buenos Aires was not on my itinerary. But events are sometimes outside one's control. It all started on Monday morning when I was leaving San Francisco to fly with American Airlines (AA) to Miami to pick up their flight to Buenos Aires. The first AA flight was delayed 2 hours due to a mechanical fault, but I had plenty of time in Miami, so was able to sit back and enjoy the spectacular sunset casting shadows over the southwestern US desert.  The flight out of Miami was also delayed, but out of Buenas Aires, it went almost out of control.
